Sorry Michele, I've only just found this amongst all the junk mail.
I think I've actually solved my problem today. By annoying bullying and
generally making a nuisance of myself with the help of the Head of
Faculty, we have managed to get the sysadmin to feed us direct from the
MERLIN/VLBI net direct thus bypassing the Astrophysics router. We thus
are in effect a telescopeless telescope site (if that makes sense).
I have also found out that all the telescope gateway siteson the net are
using a custom daemon which auto updates all the other sites if the
current gateway goes down. Therefor I don't need to find the external
ip, the daemon very politely informs our router if its external ip
changes. Problem solved.
The only problem is that I can't now use Mu as the gateway router for
the Lan as the new feed is via gigabite card which Mu doesn't support.
Oh well.
