1-st of all you need to have a module (file with ".o" extension)
Then type " insmod xxx.o " where xxx - module name.

What version of mu do you have in use?
I use 13r2 and "setup -f eth0" works without problem. My netcard is ne2000.
Perhaps the best way is to upgrade you software.
