fork error when trying to create swap space

I'm trying to get muLinux to run on my IBM PS/1 (486sx16 with 4Mb of ram), but
when I get to the "Welcome to MuLinux" page it asks me to create a swap file.
I've tried selecting "continue" and "run a shell", but keep on running into an
error message that says it cannot fork when trying to do something with init.
Any advice is appreciated!
