Creating Nested Substates

Create a composite state by nesting one or more levels of states within one state. You can also place start/end states and history states inside of a state, and draw transitions among the contained substates.

Using Drag and drop to create a nested substate:

  1. Place a state element on the diagram background.

  2. Drag the new state on top of an existing state.

  3. Drop the new state.

Or by using the state elements context menu:

  1. Right click on the state that will be the container.

  2. Select New > State.

NB: Using the state elements context menu you can also create all the other subelements that a state can contain.
