Creating Signals

The signal receipt and signal sending elements on an activity diagram are provided to show explicit symbols for certain kinds of information that can be specified on transitions. These elements are not necessary for constructing activity diagrams, but many users prefer the added impact that they provide.

Choose from any of the methods listed below to create a signal receipt or a signal sending element.

Use the diagram toolbar button:

1. Click the Signal Receipt button or the Signal Sending button on the diagram toolbar.




2. Click on the diagram to create the element.

Use the diagram context menu:

1. In Diagram view, right click on the background.




2. From the context menu, select New > Signal Receipt or New > Signal Sending.

Use the element context menu:

1. In the UML Navigator view, right click on the activity diagram that will contain the new element.




2. From the context menu, select New > Signal Receipt or New > Signal Sending.
