On an opened diagram you can use the diagrams toolbar to create elements, or you can right click on the diagram or element and select the New menu:
The new menu contains new elements based upon the selected node, e.g. for a Class you can create Attributes and Methods etc... for an Component diagram you can create Subsystem and Component elements etc...
