Background documentation Dictionary Perspective Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The Dictionary perspective groups together the tools for defining global data types (simple types and structures) and database objects (tables and indexes).

The perspective provides the Dictionary Explorer as a central entry point. This supplies a view of the logical structure of the Dictionary projects and serves as a starting point for the relevant development activities.

Starting from a generated project framework, choose the required category and start the appropriate Create wizard.

If you are creating a data type, the appropriate Editor for defining data types is displayed subsequently. Here you can enter the additional specifications for the global data types, including the UI text information.

If you are creating a database table, the appropriate Editor for defining tables is displayed subsequently. Here you can define the required table columns and create the indexes for the current table.

In order to then create an SDA from a Dictionary project and afterwards execute the deploy process for this archive, choose the appropriate function from the context menu in the Dictionary Explorer.

Note

If you are creating a Dictionary project, the Dictionary perspective will be opened automatically. You can also call the Dictionary perspective through the menu path Window ® Open Perspective ® Dictionary.

The graphic below shows an excerpt from the Dictionary perspective with the Dictionary Explorer (left) and the editor for table definitions (right).

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Note

If a connection to an R/3 system was started using an adaptive RFC, further dictionaries – in addition to the local dictionary – can be displayed as a container for backend types in the Dictionary Explorer. The data types, structures, and tables of these dictionaries are available in read-only mode.
