Starting and Stopping the Software Deployment Manager 

As standard, the Software Deployment Manager (SDM) is integrated into the Java Startup and Control Framework of the SAP J2EE Engine, which means that it is started and stopped automatically with the Engine.

Situations can arise in which you need to start and stop the SDM independently of the SAP J2EE Engine. For example, for security reasons, you may want to run the SDM during the current deployment only.
