Controller:

The controller here refers to the RAID controller unit(s) that power the RAID subsystems. The configuration changes you make here have dramatic effects on array performance.
- Caching Parameters
-
Write-Back Cache: Write-back can improve disk write performance by
caching and sorting the host writes and efficiently distributing them to hard
drives at appropriate time. Write-back is configurable on a per array (logical
drive) basis. The value you set here becomes the default for all configured
arrays. If an array write policy is set to "default," the value you
enter here will be automatically applied.
Optimization: Controller internal parameters, like I/O processing
behaviors and stripe size, have been tuned for the two application categories,
Random and Sequential. Choosing either of these optimization modes should suffice
most application needs. The optimization mode can also be applied on a per logical
drive bassis.
Sync. Period (Sec): This option is applied for dual-redundant
controller configuration where partner controllers constantly synchronize cached
contents. If a specific time period is set, controllers will flush the cached
writes at preset intevals.
- Controller Parameters
-
Controller Name: Using a name helps administrators to recognize
a subsystem in a multi-RAID environment.
Unique Identifier(HEX): This is a must for any Infortrend RAID
subsystems especially with models featuring Fibre host channels. This ID becomes
a part of host port "port name" to prevent host computers to mis-address
system FC ports. Applicable numbers range from "0" to "FFFFF."
Make sure each subsystem has a unique ID in your networked environment.
Time Zone(GMT): GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is used here, a 24-hour
clock. To change the clock to your local time zone, select a time from the drop-down
menu. Choose the hour later than the Greenwich mean time following a plus (+)
sign. For example, enter “+9” for Japanese time zone
Date/Time: Enter time and date in its numeric representatives
in the following order: month, day, hour, minute, and the year.
SDRAM ECC: If the DIMM module installed for data caching supports
ECC, you may select to enable or disable the error check function here.
Apply: Click this button for the configuratoin to take effect.
