And what are system crackers after? Some possible intentions could be:
A jumping-off point for SPAM.
A safe haven for launching other attacks, including DDoS.
Specific files on the local machines. (e.g. Bank data, credit card numbers)
Industrial espionage.
The bottom line is this:
Crackers is an unauthorized user who, for whatever reason has taken an interest in your system, network or data. They do not belong there. Do not make it easy for them.
