Patching the system (cont.)

  • Recompile the kernel, especially if you are running RedHat. This is because RedHat has a history of not completely QCing their distribution. It has lead to issues in the past. Plus, you will get a smaller, faster, more efficient kernel.
  • There are a number of kernel patches available, including
  • LIDS, the Linux Intrusion Detection System
  • Openwall (not yet for 2.4 kernels yet)
  • International Crypto Kernel Patch
