Background: Security
System security affects each person who has a computer. Whether on a standalone machine, an isolated private network or connected to the Internet, the possibility exists for unauthorized users to attack the system and break in to a machine or cause the machine to become unusable through a denial of service attack. They may also use the network to perform insertion (also known as man in the middle) attacks.
Especially in this age of always-on, high-speed links such as cablemodem and DSL, even home users must protect themselves by securing their systems.
