In 1.6.2 and earlier, a resource exhaustion vulnerability in joserfc allows an unauthenticated attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via CPU exhaustion. When the library decrypts a JSON Web Encryption (JWE) token using Password-Based Encryption (PBES2) algorithms, it reads the p2c (PBES2 Count) parameter directly from the token's protected header. This parameter defines the number of iterations for the PBKDF2 key derivation function. Because joserfc does not validate or bound this value, an attacker can specify an extremely large iteration count (e.g., 2^31 - 1), forcing the server to expend massive CPU resources processing a single token. This vulnerability exists at the JWA layer and impacts all high-level JWE and JWT decryption interfaces if PBES2 algorithms are allowed by the application's policy.","title":"Description of the CVE"},{"category":"legal_disclaimer","text":"CSAF 2.0 data is provided by SUSE under the Creative Commons License 4.0 with Attribution (CC-BY-4.0).","title":"Terms of use"}],"publisher":{"category":"vendor","contact_details":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/contact/","name":"SUSE Product Security Team","namespace":"https://www.suse.com/"},"references":[{"category":"external","summary":"CVE-2026-27932","url":"https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-27932"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Security Ratings","url":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/rating/"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Bug 1259154 for CVE-2026-27932","url":"https://bugzilla.suse.com/1259154"}],"title":"SUSE CVE CVE-2026-27932","tracking":{"current_release_date":"2026-03-07T00:25:34Z","generator":{"date":"2026-03-05T06:50:04Z","engine":{"name":"cve-database.git:bin/generate-csaf-vex.pl","version":"1"}},"id":"CVE-2026-27932","initial_release_date":"2026-03-05T06:50:04Z","revision_history":[{"date":"2026-03-05T06:50:04Z","number":"2","summary":"references added, severity changed from to important"},{"date":"2026-03-07T00:25:34Z","number":"3","summary":"vulnerabilities added"}],"status":"interim","version":"3"}},"product_tree":{"branches":[{"branches":[{"branches":[{"category":"product_name","name":"openSUSE Leap 16.0","product":{"name":"openSUSE Leap 16.0","product_id":"openSUSE Leap 16.0"}},{"category":"product_name","name":"openSUSE Tumbleweed","product":{"name":"openSUSE Tumbleweed","product_id":"openSUSE Tumbleweed","product_identification_helper":{"cpe":"cpe:/o:opensuse:tumbleweed"}}},{"category":"product_version","name":"python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product":{"name":"python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product_id":"python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product_identification_helper":{"purl":"pkg:rpm/suse/python311-joserfc@1.6.3-1.1"}}},{"category":"product_version","name":"python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1","product":{"name":"python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1","product_id":"python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1","product_identification_helper":{"purl":"pkg:rpm/suse/python313-joserfc@1.1.0-bp160.2.1"}}},{"category":"product_version","name":"python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product":{"name":"python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product_id":"python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","product_identification_helper":{"purl":"pkg:rpm/suse/python313-joserfc@1.6.3-1.1"}}}],"category":"product_family","name":"SUSE Linux Enterprise"}],"category":"vendor","name":"SUSE"}],"relationships":[{"category":"default_component_of","full_product_name":{"name":"python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1 as component of openSUSE Leap 16.0","product_id":"openSUSE Leap 16.0:python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1"},"product_reference":"python313-joserfc-1.1.0-bp160.2.1","relates_to_product_reference":"openSUSE Leap 16.0"},{"category":"default_component_of","full_product_name":{"name":"python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1 as component of openSUSE Tumbleweed","product_id":"openSUSE Tumbleweed:python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1"},"product_reference":"python311-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","relates_to_product_reference":"openSUSE Tumbleweed"},{"category":"default_component_of","full_product_name":{"name":"python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1 as component of openSUSE Tumbleweed","product_id":"openSUSE Tumbleweed:python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1"},"product_reference":"python313-joserfc-1.6.3-1.1","relates_to_product_reference":"openSUSE Tumbleweed"}]},"vulnerabilities":[{"cve":"CVE-2026-27932","ids":[{"system_name":"SUSE CVE Page","text":"https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-27932"}],"notes":[{"category":"general","text":"joserfc is a Python library that provides an implementation of several JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) standards.
