An issue in versions prior to 6.0.6 and 6.19.0 affects any Incus user in an environment where an unprivileged user may have root access to a container with an attached custom storage volume that has the `security.shifted` property set to `true` as well as access to the host as an unprivileged user. The most common case for this would be systems using `incus-user` with the less privileged `incus` group to provide unprivileged users with an isolated restricted access to Incus. Such users may be able to create a custom storage volume with the necessary property (depending on kernel and filesystem support) and can then write a setuid binary from within the container which can be executed as an unprivileged user on the host to gain root privileges. A patch for this issue is expected in versions 6.0.6 and 6.19.0. As a workaround, permissions can be manually restricted until a patched version of Incus is deployed.","title":"Description of the CVE"},{"category":"legal_disclaimer","text":"CSAF 2.0 data is provided by SUSE under the Creative Commons License 4.0 with Attribution (CC-BY-4.0).","title":"Terms of use"}],"publisher":{"category":"vendor","contact_details":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/contact/","name":"SUSE Product Security Team","namespace":"https://www.suse.com/"},"references":[{"category":"external","summary":"CVE-2025-64507","url":"https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2025-64507"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Security Ratings","url":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/rating/"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Bug 1253229 for CVE-2025-64507","url":"https://bugzilla.suse.com/1253229"}],"title":"SUSE CVE CVE-2025-64507","tracking":{"current_release_date":"2026-01-02T00:28:41Z","generator":{"date":"2025-11-12T00:19:23Z","engine":{"name":"cve-database.git:bin/generate-csaf-vex.pl","version":"1"}},"id":"CVE-2025-64507","initial_release_date":"2025-11-12T00:19:23Z","revision_history":[{"date":"2025-11-12T00:19:23Z","number":"2","summary":"Current version"},{"date":"2026-01-02T00:28:41Z","number":"3","summary":"severity changed from moderate to important"}],"status":"interim","version":"3"}}}
