MuPad is a program system for doing computer algebra. It is being developed at the University of Paderborn, Germany.
Computer algebra systems providei symbolic handling of mathematical formulae and, supplied with expert knowledge, make it easier to handle. They allow interactive manipulation of mathematical objects, effortless functional programming of particular mathematical problems. Their immense effect on mathematical lessons at universities and high schools has already been noted. Even schools are starting to use it as part of their lessons.
MuPAD is one of the first universal computer algebra systems. It is already well known for its object oriented language as well as for its steady growing implementations of mathematical algorithms. An extraordinary comfortable GUI, an interactive on-line help system, the included debugger and a powerful graphics tool are the main advantages of MuPAD.
In 1993 MuPAD has been awarded with the "German-Austrian software price" followed by the First European Software Award in 1994.
Before you start using MuPAD you should read the README file which is located under /usr/MuPAD. This file explains how to accustom your environment to fully use MuPAD.
