Goal is to Expand Use of Objects and Smalltalk To the OOP and Smalltalk Community, At Objectshare, we've long felt that in order to grow the number of skilled object-oriented and Smalltalk programmers, someone needs to provide an easy, low-cost way to learn Smalltalk. Now, as a division of ParcPlace-Digitalk, and with their help, we're able to satisfy that need with Smalltalk Express. Smalltalk Express includes Smalltalk/V Win16 and WindowBuilder Pro/V. We are offering it FREE over the Internet. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for programmers to learn objects and Smalltalk. Smalltalk Express - The Fastest Path to Objects Smalltalk/V Win16 is known for good performance in a relatively small memory footprint. Its class library is much simpler than VisualSmalltalk's. It runs nicely in Windows 3.1 and Windows95 (no Win95 controls though). We think it is the ideal vehicle for learning Smalltalk. Smalltalk Class Hierarchy Browser This is where you'll explore Smalltalk, write code, build new classes. WindowBuilder Pro/V Click on controls. Lay out your UIs. Easily integrate them into your application. WindowBuilder Pro/V is the most popular UI builder in Smalltalk. It is very productive and makes Smalltalk much easier to learn and use. Documentation and Tutorials Smalltalk Express includes electronic documentation, including a Tutorial and a host of example projects. Support and Community Support will be provided only by fellow users. We plan to encourage a community of people using Smalltalk Express and to encourage online support from other users. Downloading the Software - The Details You'll download a 2.9MB exe (self extracting) file. You simply execute it. It will extract the files and launch the installation program. It will give you the choice of where to install Smalltalk Express. Before downloading, you'll need to agree to our standard license. You'll need to supply your name, email address, and mail address. Getting Started When you launch Smalltalk Express, all you'll see is the Transcript (similar to standard output).
