Create! Readme file (last update 19 September 1994) -------------------------------------------------- ****************************************************************************** * CAVEATS * * * * Create! needs the ParcPlace ObjectWorks Smalltalk 4.1 virtual machine to * * run, which is NOT part of this distribution. * * * * For copyright and license reasons, only a stripped version without source * * is available on ftp-servers. * * * * If you want to get the full development environment, let us know. * * * * * * The Create! image is still 4.0, so some problems may arise (we hardly ever * * encountered one, but ...) * * * * * * Porting to 4.1 is currently underway including an English version! * * * ****************************************************************************** LAST MINUTE WARNING: Due to problems encountered when stripping the image, Create! may behave ungracefully when running into an error. Most probably it will just hang, so you have to kill the process. The following files should be present: install installation script cleanup cleans up after installation create.tar.Z Create! environment doc.tar.Z documentation tutorial.tar.Z tutorial projects README self create.info general information create.license license aggreement create.list listing of create.tar.Z doc.list listing of doc.tar.Z tutorial.list listing of tutorial.tar.Z After reading the README file - check out that you have at least 30 MB free disk space available after installation and cleanup, Create! needs about 14 MB including docs - move all files to a directory, where you want Create! to be installed. - execute install all scripts are csh scripts. If you encounter any problems, let me know - edit the create script (see system/scripts/README for details) to use the correct create path for startup - copy the create script (see system/scripts/README for details) to a convenient public place like /usr/local - for quick'n'dirty check - go to the create root directory (where system, tutorial etc. is) - start create with "system/scripts/create create" - login as "tutorial", password "tutorial" - try to open a project, model (you can't save your work though!) - quit - if successful, execute cleanup this removes the original archive files if you want to keep them, just skip this step For "real" use: - read the gettingStarted.ps - try starting create from your normal working account - follow the instructions in gettingStarted Try to figure out the German documentation and user interface. Feel free to contact me for help on German terms. Any comments are welcome.
