LiVES - Video editing system

LiVES is a small (the stripped binary is under 400K) but powerful GNU/Linux video editing system. It loads and plays most video formats (via mplayer decoder). The playback can be at variable frame rates, both forward and in reverse. Users can cut and paste frames within and between clips, apply effects, create composites, and save both selections and individual frames.

'LiVES' lets you 'scratch' with video - that is, move smoothly backwards and forwards through it, and record yourself doing so. It can output to divx, asf, vob, vcd, mjpeg or mpeg1, or any other format using encoder plugins. Resampling of video (time stretching) can be to any frame rate (.5 to 200 fps) with the option to auto-resample between clips and alter the playback speed of video and audio independently. The audio portion works with mp3, ogg, or wav files.
