[oc] Re: PCI resources (fwd)

I'm forwarding this to the opencores list in the hope that someone
here will be able to help. Hope that's ok with everyone.

Subject: Re: opencollector PCI resources

We picked up several hundred surplus XCV300E's, XC4085XLA's and XC4062XLA's, and
several of us are thinking about doing a couple proto's run's for school project
boards, at least one of which we would like to be PCI foundation recofigurable
computing protos. We have parts to build about 100 boards out of the XC4085XLABGA432's
and a few dozen of the others. About half will be consumed by local students, the
rest will be available to others. We are still deciding what to put on the cards,
but current guess is they will be pretty bare with I/O headers for project cards and
cost about $150-200 ea (depending on how large an initial run we can afford given
the high SMT proto fab costs). The FPGA's have enough gates and I/O's for some interesting
projects, and we are trying to keep the finished boards affordable (limited student
budgets).

Any comments about what you guys would like to see on an FPGA PCI proto board?

We were hoping to find a pretty complete FPGA PCI core with mastering that wouldn't
require a lot of restructuring for the proto cards, or team with someone already
well down that path (maybe in exchange for one of the cards).

Thanks,
John
