Lilo under mulinux is not run by itself but rather through "liloconfig" where it creates a "lilo.conf" file in the /tmp directory.(usually lilo.conf resides in /etc)
Anytime one attempts to boot from a different partition or even from a different kernel on the same partition one must run liloconfig with /dev/hda being where the master boot record resides and /dev/hdc1 being where the kernel resides.(in this case)
If liloconfig is not run lilo has no way of knowing where the kernel is. hence the "LI" you're seeing.
